Overview

Snapmarks is designed with privacy as a core principle. We collect minimal data and give you full control over your information.

Data Storage

Free Version

All your data is stored locally on your device using IndexedDB, a browser-based database. This includes:

  • Bookmark metadata (title, URL, description, tags)
  • Categories and organization preferences
  • Settings and preferences

None of this data is transmitted to our servers. It exists solely on your device.

Pro Version

If you choose to subscribe to Pro and enable sync, your bookmark data is encrypted and stored on our secure servers to enable cross-device synchronization. You can delete your cloud data at any time from the settings panel.

Data Collection

What We Collect

  • Account information (Pro only): Email address for authentication
  • Payment information (Pro only): Processed securely by Stripe; we never see your full card number
  • Basic analytics: Anonymous usage statistics to improve the product (can be disabled)

What We Don't Collect

  • Your browsing history
  • Content of websites you visit
  • Personal information beyond what you provide
  • Bookmark data (free version)

Third-Party Services

og:image Fetching

When you add a bookmark, Snapmarks fetches the page's og:image and description metadata to display thumbnails. This request is made directly from your browser to the bookmarked website — it does not pass through our servers.

Chrome Bookmarks API

Snapmarks uses Chrome's Bookmarks API to read your existing bookmarks and stay synchronized with changes. We request only the minimum permissions necessary.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data at any time
  • Export your bookmarks
  • Delete your account and all associated data (Pro users)
  • Opt out of analytics

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest for Pro users' synced data.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, for Pro users, via email.
